    Hallo,

Samsung P400 will be out in few weeks. This new phone has an increased MMS client (50Kb, slideshow + sound) and 200 SMS memory. Eldar from Mobile-review said that P400 is built on the same platform as V200. So, do you think Samsung will provide a firmware update for V200 for increasing its messaging features?

Because if you send a 50Kb MMS from P400 to V200, then how the V200 (limited to 30Kb) will be able to read the message?

Somebody can ask to Samsung if a firmware upgrade is planned soon?

    Thanx
    Gruss

Siemens said to be looking down Microsoft path
    16/07/03 09:48 - by Tim Marshall

The willingness of Siemens to consider multiple mobile software platforms to help protect its position in the mobile handset business is again on show with rumours from Germany this week that the company is seriously considering producing new handsets based on Microsoft’s Windows-based Smartphone operating system.

While the company has yet to make any formal comment on the talk, industry speculation suggests that Siemens will make a Microsoft version of its new ST55 handset, which it has been contracted to supply to T-Mobile following the collapse of the carrier’s co-development agreement with Microsoft last month. T-Mobile had planned to sell Microsoft Smartphones, similar to the Orange SPV, manufactured by Taiwan’s HTC, although it cancelled the plans after finding persistent problems with the stability of the product.

This is not the first time that Siemens, number four in the world handset sales rankings has looked to spread its exposure in the market. Indeed, the company was rumoured earlier this year to be in talks with NTT DoCoMo about becoming the first European phone maker to develop specialist i-mode devices while it already sells a Microsoft-based PDA, the SX56, in the US.

Should Siemens start making Windows-based handsets Microsoft will no doubt have met a significant goal in bringing its systems to the mass market. The company has struggled to have phone makers adopt its software over the widely accepted Symbian system and only Samsung has made the move to produce units based on both systems. Microsoft was also recently observed keenly lobbying SonyEricsson for it to take on its software.

But while observers suggest that Siemens’ ties to Symbian could preclude a move to Microsoft, such a plan could be the company’s key to longevity. Indeed, Siermens was only recently superseded by Samsung as world number three, a situation widely attributed to the South Korean company’s ability to address all markets and technology options, and it is already using Microsoft systems for its SX56 PDA.

Microsoft’s systems are no doubt on the path to greater market acceptance and rumours are even circulating about an eventual consolidation in the sector eventuating in just one handset platform. With Samsung’s success in mind, suggestions are that those that get in now won’t regret the decision.

and some others show this... :)
