Motorola unveils eight handsets and one ‘secret weapon’ (V690)
With the Taipei International Telecommunications & Networking Show scheduled to open tomorrow, Motorola yesterday unveiled nine new handset models, dubbing the V690 handset its “secret weapon.”
According to sources, the V690 is made by Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS). It features a 128×160 color panel, a hidden antenna, a digital camera with built-in flash-light and support for video streaming. It will be targeted at the Asia-Pacific region initially.
It is believed that Motorola still has two more models in its arsenal to launch before the end of the year, of which one of them will most likely be made by CMCS, according to sources. The other model will be an in-house designed CDMA handset. CMCS is expected to ship a combined total of 300,000 units a month for Motorola beginning in October and up to 500,000 units in December.
Other handsets launched by Motorola include the A835, its second WCDMA 3G handset. It features multi-call function, A-GPS, MMS support, built-in Bluetooth, MPEG-4 support and MP3 functionality. According to the vendor, its maximum download speed is 384 Kbps, with a maximum upload speed at 64 Kbps.
Motorola also launched its first Linux handset, the A760.
