So holt man sich die gesamte Wert(ab)schöpfungskette immer weiter ins eigene Haus, und braucht bei Entscheidungen, die einzelne Glieder betreffen (und damit evtl. andere in Mitleidenschaft ziehen), weniger Rücksicht auf aushäusige Befindlichkeiten nehmen. Dies fällt auch bei den Anti-Monopol-Behörden weniger auf.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and TAIPEI, Taiwan – September 21, 2017 – Google (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) and HTC Corporation (TWSE: 2489) today announced a definitive agreement under which certain HTC employees – many of whom are already working with Google to develop Pixel smartphones – will join Google. HTC will receive US$1.1 billion in cash from Google as part of the transaction. Separately, Google will receive a non-exclusive license for HTC intellectual property (IP).

The agreement is a testament to the decade-long strategic relationship between HTC and Google around the development of premium smartphones.

This agreement also supports HTC’s continued branded smartphone strategy, enabling a more streamlined product portfolio, greater operational efficiency and financial flexibility. HTC will continue to have best-in-class engineering talent, which is currently working on the next flagship phone, following the successful launch of the HTC U11 earlier this year. HTC will also continue to build the virtual reality ecosystem to grow its VIVE business, while investing in other next-generation technologies, including the Internet of Things, augmented reality and artificial intelligence.

For Google, this agreement further reinforces its commitment to smartphones and overall investment in its emerging hardware business. In addition to the talented and experienced team of professionals, Google will continue to have access to HTC’s IP to support the Pixel smartphone family. Additionally, this agreement also represents a significant investment by Google in Taiwan as a key innovation and technology hub.

The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, is expected to close by early 2018.

Evercore served as financial advisor to HTC and Gibson Dunn and Tsar & Tsai acted as legal
counsel. Lazard served as financial advisor to Google and Cleary Gottlieb and Lee & Li acted as
legal counsel.

So kann Google nun einen Teil de Knowhow integrieren und für künftige Pixel nutzen

Es fällt offenbar zunehmend schwerer, im Smartphonemarkt überhaupt Geld zu verdienen.

Das ist schon seit Jahren so. Samsung und Apple streichen etwa 105% der Gewinne ein, die anderen Hersteller schreiben bestenfalls ne schwarze Null, oder aber sie fahren Verluste ein.

Na mal sehen wie lange Google diesmal Spaß an der Sache hat. Wenn sie eins gezeigt haben, dann das sich ihre Prioritäten ziemlich schnell ändern können.

Vielleicht bekommen sie es ja wenigstens hin, ein Gerät in adäquaten Stückzahlen liefern zu können.

Worüber ich ja nicht hinweg komme: Google sagt, sie haben den Teil der Truppe übernommen, der bisher schon an den Pixel Geräten gearbeitet hat. HTC sagt, dass sie die besten Techniker weiterhin beschäftigen. Entweder hat also nur die zweite Garde am Pixel geschraubt, oder die Besten wechseln nicht, oder all das ist nur Blabla

Das sind ja genau die Qualitäten, mit denen Google in der Vergangenheit geglänzt hat

Was wäre die Alternative? HTC gibt zu, dass die Handyentwicklung enthauptet wurde oder Google sagt, man hat die zweite Garde gekauft, weil man die erste Garnitur nicht bekam? Solche Meldungen sind doch Juristen- und BWLer-Sprech. Am Ende wurden vermutlich alle halbwegs lauffähigen Talente von HTC abgekauft. Ist dem so, verkäme HTC zum Auftragsfertiger. Hätte letztlich aber auch irgendwie Sinn, wenn warum soll man an etwas arbeiten, das nachweislich kein Geld bringt? Google kalkuliert da anders, da sie die Daten verwursten und damit ihre Kohle machen. Zur Not könnten und müssten die bewusst unter Kosten verkaufen, um nicht von den mobilen Nutzerdaten angeschnitten zu werden.

Auch denke ich, Google geht die extreme Feingliederung des android-Marktes auf den Sack. Da müsste nur ein richtiger Schädling kommen und Millionen Handys abräumen, die ungepflegt sind, und der Ruf ist ruiniert.

Ich persönlich würde z.B. nie mit Android Banking machen... Was weiß denn ich, was die Apps so treiben. Bei iOS sieht’s anders aus. Ist zwar mächtig eingehegt, dafür aber sicherer.
